3. Kelsey Patterson

Patterson was a paranoid schizophrenic who often heard voices that drove him to commit violent acts. He was arrested for the murder of two people in Palestine, Texas, and though medical authorities testified that he was not fit to stand trial due to his mental illness, he was tried and convicted and given a death sentence. Although governor Rick Perry had the opportunity to change Patterson’s punishment to a life sentence, he refused, and Patterson was executed in 2004.
