Splinter of the Mind’s Eye
No one thought Star Wars was going to do well in theaters. George Lucas certainly didn’t envision he’d have the opportunity to create Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, let alone the prequel trilogies. So he planned an alternate sequel which he called Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. It was meant to be a low budget sequel that would feature Luke and Leia crash landing onto a swamp planet where the Empire was mining for a special, all-powerful crystal. The story was eventually turned into a novel written by Alan Dean Forester.
