Tolstoy once famously wrote that all happy families are alike, but that each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Of course, he wrote that in Russian, and might have tipped a vodka or two prior, but nonetheless, the words are immortal, and the only thing he could have added is that all rich families have skeletons in their closet. All you have to do is dig a little deeper beneath the posh veneer of the UK’s landed gentry, and you’re sure to unearth some bombshells. So pour yourself a glass of your favourite liquid pick-me-upper, and have a look at some of the rot that hides ‘neath the facade.

The Savile Family Scandal

Jimmy SavileSOURCE

By now you probably know that Jimmy Savile was a notorious and wanton abuser of children, and that all the pomp and circumstance bestowed on him by the establishment, including the Queen who knighted the perv was founded on lies. Savile who died at 84 in October 2011, was known for his presenter duties on “Top of the Pops” for what seems like an eternity, and was also into philanthropy, raising millions for a number of charities in the UK, but after he shuffled off this mortal coil, the charges came fast and furious, hundreds of abuse victims marching forward like an army, telling scandalous tales of Savile’s penchant for having a go with just about anything that walked, regardless of age. In fact a Scotland Yard investigation of this rich depraved old man, indicated that he had most likely been in the assault biz for more than 60 years, and that his crimes could total more than 400 people.

Some accusers had come forward prior to Savile’s death, but were swiftly denounced under legal threats. But once Savile was dead, the victims emerged, including dozens under the age of 10, and most under the age of 18. Savile is alleged to have raped 34 times and amassed more than 200 criminal charges. If you listen closely, you can hear Savile screaming his anguish from the depths of a H*ll in which he surely has taken up permanent residence.
